Stage play adaptation of “Behold the Dreamers” at Book-It Repertory Theatre. Well-written captivating storytelling. Reminds me of the sacrifices my immigrant parents made to achieve the American Dream. Loved the juxtaposition between the rich & poor. Surprised that so many seats were empty at such a good play.
“Pass Over” at ACT Theatre. While I support #BlackLivesMatter, I wasn’t a fan of this play’s style. Slow-moving & not very compelling/riveting until after halfway. Too much unnecessary profanity. Good symbolism but I’m sure lots went over my head. #PromisedLand
Watched “Reefer Madness: The Musical.” Blown away by the talent of these community performers (and I’ve seen a professional production of this musical). Most everybody looked so fit when scantily clad! One of the best SecondStory Repertory shows I’ve seen. #marijuana #weed #MaryJane
Stage play version of “Kim’s Convenience” w/ Taproot Theatre. Relatable to the Asian immigrant family experience. Also kinda racist (but in other ways not). Cool detailed set too. #Korean
“Tiny Beautiful Things” w/ Seattle Repertory Theatre. Well-performed emotional monologues & impressive memorization. But this play about a columnist needed less Oprah & Lifetime with more “Sex & the City.” #basic
“Bye Bye Birdie” musical w/ dad at Centerstage Theatre. The dramatic middle-aged “jewish mother” was a hoot! While the cast wasn’t bad, I wish I’d have known 1/2 of them are still in #highschool.
“West Side Story” musical w/ dad at The 5th Avenue Theatre. Rich male lead voice. Iconic songs. Beautiful orchestration. Strong choreography but comical for tough #gangs to “ballet fight.” Teens are so melodramatic! Can’t we just get along? #RomeoAndJuliet
“Hart Island” developing beta musical w/ dad at Village Theatre. Versatile talented cast & tight complex wordless harmonies. But I’m skeptical the show will go mainstage w/o fixing the monochromatic downer motif & unclear plot holes. #BlackLivesMatter #Rap #Minorities
Stage musical production of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” w/ dad at Seattle Musical Theatre. Some good songs & awesome Miss Mona actress. But slow dialogue, awkward transitions, & terrible microphones. #Brothel
Seattle Symphony & Troupe Vertigo’s “Cirque Goes Broadway” w/ dad at Benaroya Hall. Liked the idea of incorporating visuals w/ orchestra since concerts can be boring to watch. But slower, more obscure songs than expected made the circus acts less exciting. Outstanding singers though. #acrobatics
