Opening weekend of the play An Octoroon. I think they were trying to be “edgy theatre” but ended up being just bizarre. They also did whiteface, blackface, & redface. Not sure what was the point of all the offensive depictions. — attending An Octoroon at ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery. Photo of set designed by Julia Hayes Welch used with permission from ArtsWest.
Opening preview night of “The Wolves” play. Usually not a fan of plays where it’s all talk and no action but this wasn’t terrible. However, it didn’t seem like an accurate depiction of high school. Maybe college? — attending The Wolves at ACT Theatre.20
Opening night to Kiss Me, Kate musical featuring songs by Cole Porter. Originally saw in a community theater (Seattle Musical Theatre) and man, the professional production is so much better! — attending Kiss Me, Kate at The 5th Avenue Theatre.
Attended the joint Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus concert “Not in Our Town” with Bobby, Andres, and Srikanth. It’s different being in the audience this time instead of the stage. Great job guys! Not a fan of Randy Rainbow’s bit though. — attending Not In Our Town at McCaw Hall.
Watched the nonsensical Seussical the Musical. Not bad. My main request: if gender bending casting, make sure the actors don’t sing an octave lower than the original parts. Or at least transpose the dang song! — attending Seussical at Cornish Playhouse At Seattle Center.
Watched Crowns The Gospel Musical. Good songs but no subtantial plot. They were literally just talking about wearing hats! There’s only so much you can say. — attending Crowns at Taproot Theatre.
Watched the overhyped Crazy Ex-Girlfriend live with Srikanth and left early. Way too millennial for us to handle. Plus it ended up being more of a concert/comedy show (when I was expecting a musical). Never even seen a full episode myself!
Easter Sunday matinee of Jesus Christ Superstar musical. Not terrible but not amazing either. They used accompaniment recording (instead of a live band), which is one of my theatre pet peeves. — attending Jesus Christ Superstar at Tacoma Little Theatre.
